The Path Beyond
This is Tim Rayborn's first release, The Path Beyond.
Tim Rayborn
is Solace's first signed artist. From the bio on Solace's site:
Though raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tim Rayborn
lived for nearly seven years in England, where he completed a
Ph.D. at the University of Leeds, and worked in the fields of
early and world music. He founded and directed Ensemble Florata,
whose recordings for ASV/Gaudeamus received international
critical acclaim. In addition, he worked with the noted British
medieval ensemble Tintagel, and performed with them on BBC
broadcasts, Belgian live radio, in Majorca, as well as a tour of
the Pacific Northwest in the U.S. Tim has toured the UK and
continental Europe extensively, and worked with traditional
musicians in Marrakech and Istanbul. He plays nearly 40 musical
instruments from Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
Tim is
currently an instrumentalist with Ya Elah (a women's Jewish
vocal group), directs his own medieval music ensemble, Caladrius,
and is the musical director of Shuvani, a music and dance group
tracing the Roma ("gypsy") trail from Rajasthan to Spain. He
recently released two new solo recordings: Chordae - medieval
harp music, and Ashek - Balkan, Middle Eastern, and Indian
music. He is also working on several new CDs this year,
including an album of Shuvani's music, and a recording of
Balkan, medieval, and Scandinavian music.

The Path
Beyond CD - $18.00
The following is taken directly from Solace's
website:
A vision of whirling dervishes engulfs the listener in a
ceremony of music and dance, leaving the mundane path of
everyday life to travel the mystic path. These songs are of
historical and traditional origin as well as improvisations or
compositions that reflect the spirit of the Sufi’s ancient
heritage. Some of the original pieces were composed or arranged
prior to the recording, while others were created 'on the spot';
capturing true improvisations in the moment that they were
created, a technique that Tim has always enjoyed using while
recording. Tim hopes that these songs will convey the sense of
richness and wonder of the cultures that produced or inspired
them.
